28th June 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As you are aware our Summer holidays start tomorrow at 12 o clock. Before we depart there are a few items that I would like to bring to your attention:

Summer Fair

We would like to say a big thank you to the Parent’s Association for their magnificent efforts in organising a wonderful Summer Fair which raised €15,687. The Summer Fair turned out to be more than just a fundraiser for the schools but was a truly special community event. Thank you in particular to the committee led by Emma McGlynn, Chairperson and the many volunteers who assisted in the days and weeks running up to the fair and on the day itself. Also to those who generously sponsored the event or donated spot prizes etc. We look forward to spending the funds raised for the benefit of the children in the school.

Educational Workshops:

We would like to say a word of thanks to Fionn Griffin (Father of Rian in First Class) for spending a morning doing Science Workshops with the children in First Class earlier this month, and to Tony O’Leary (Father of Finn in Senior Infants) who did workshops in meteorology with Senior Infants and Second Classes.

Active Schools Week:

Many thanks to everybody who got involved in our Active Schools Week this year. The children experienced a wide range of sporting activities, which were exhausting, yet most enjoyable. A special word of thanks to Múinteoir Ciara who organised the events of the week, to Lucy Reid who did workshops in Martial Arts, Fiona Molloy (Mother of Darragh, First Class) whose fitness workshops went down a treat, to Jamie Brennan (Father of Harry, Sam & Ollie) who did soccer skills workshops and to Sharon O’Malley (SNA) for her wonderful ‘Shake it with Sharon’ workshops.

Garda Vetting:

If you intend to help out in the school in the coming school year i.e. e.g. a Lunch Parent Volunteer, or as a member of the Parents Association, it is important that you submit an application for Garda Vetting in the second week of September… application forms can be collected in the Secretary’s Office.

 School leavers

If your circumstances change during the summer and your child/children will not be returning to St. Attracta’s Junior School please inform the school by email at stattractasjns@gmail.com as the phone will not be attended during the summer holidays.

Vincent de Paul/Mustard Seed fundraisers

Thank you to all the boys and girls from Second Class who shared some of their Communion money with two worthy charities St. Vincent de Paul and Mustard Seed Communities. €778 was raised which will be shared between the two charities.

Green Schools

Congratulations to Miss O’Neill and the Green Schools committee for their efforts in the lead up to St. Attracta’s Junior School being awarded our 7th Green Flag recently.

The children enjoyed a lovely fun day to celebrate the event last Friday.

Staff News

We would like to wish Ms. Bebhinn Murphy well as she leaves the Junior School to take up a position in the Senior School for the coming year.

Congratulations to Ms. Foley on the birth of her baby boy Luke, Múinteoir Ciara on the birth of her baby girl Sophie and Ms. Watts on the birth of her baby girl Faye.

On a personal level I want to extend a big ‘thank you’ to our school community of Parents, Staff, Board of Management, and above all the children for your wonderful support throughout the past school year. A special word of thanks for the joy that our departing Second Classes brought to our school over the past four years, and we wish them every success in their transition to the Senior School.

Happy Holidays to you all, keep safe and see you all again on August 29th!!!

Go raibh maith agaibh go léir,

Tommy Neary,

Principal.
